What is this?
Slash Magazine is an independent literary magazine celebrating the horror genre. Slash Magazine is featured as both an online magazine and a special periodical small-run print feature.
How can I contribute my writing or art?
Submissions for the online edition of Slash Magazine are accepted on a rolling basis. The Online Submission form will be up here.
We also have a themed quarterly print edition of Slash Magazine, that will accept submissions per the theme ahead of production. Updates and submission announcements will be here on the website and on our Instagram page. Submission is free, so we'd love to see your work!
Do you pay for pieces?
At this time, Slash Magazine is unable to pay for pieces. As a wholly independent solo-run endeavour that is less than a year old, Slash Magazine is in its humble beginnings. The response already has been unexpected and so incredible!
Slash Magazine is still searching for ways to secure adequate funding and raise money to bring this beyond a break-even situation. The moment we secure adequate funding and have the capability to pay for submissions, we will! With this said, Slash Magazine strives to be fair and respectful of your work while this project grows. If you still would like to submit to Slash Magazine, it would be lovely to read your work! (See below about the rights for your pieces)
Do I retain the rights to my pieces?
Yes! Especially as we are not able to pay for submissions at this moment, we do not claim any ownership over your work. You will be credited accordingly, and if you would like to submit your Slash Magazine pieces anywhere else, we wholeheartedly encourage you to do so. If you have any changes to a piece (it was accepted elsewhere and can not be published in more than one place and need your piece removed from Slash Magazine Online, for example), we are happy to work with you to make sure you receive the best outcome for your work. We're grateful for your participation in our collection, and want to make sure we are building up this community of writers.
Can I use generative AI for my submission?
Absolutely not. The only mention of AI we will accept is an original piece about how much AI sucks.
I didn't make it into the upcoming print issue. Can I submit again next time?
Please, do! If your piece isn't selected for a specific issue, we will let you know. It may fit better in a future issue, at which point we will reach out to you.
Are there limits to what can be submitted?
Only a few - blatant hate speech that is inherently racist, homophobic, transphobic, xenophobic, and misogynistic is abhorred. Do not submit a piece filled with hatred. We obviously read through each piece to make our selections, and reserve the right to block you from submitting anything in the future should you send us pieces filled with hatred. This is a non-negotiable.
